Just in case you hadn’t noticed. My spiritual motivation/gifting lies smack dab in the middle of the prophetic. No, not the tell the future kind of prophecy, but the tell the Truth, the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth kind of prophecy. The "Thus saith the Lord" type of prophetic word. Speaking forth the word of God. Prophets are never popular people. They always (when operating in their gifting) dispense strong medicine. The kind that doesn’t taste good or go down smooth. Those who don’t like medicine:  "say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:" (Isa 30:10)

Prophets are not at all concerned about how the audience feels about the Truth. Not for lack of love but because of love. They are not going to sugar-coat their pill nor hand out placebos. The Truth never makes apology for Himself. He just stands there boldly exposing lies and deceptions – that’s His job description. He is a real party pooper. If you want to enjoy yourself continuing in the stupor of the sickness of sin don’t invite a prophet to lunch. On the other hand, if you want to get well, go get medicine from a prophet.

I have been told that I am too harsh. That is probably true if I were wanting to "Win Friends and Influence People". I am not here to tickle itching ears. Unfortunately, there are many pulpits you can find to do that for you. A time is coming when men will be haters of the truth. They will not abide sound doctrine but will gather to themselves false teachers. Welcome to post-modern Christianity.

If you have been in the same church for many years doing the same things and hearing the same messages (generally about a two year cycle) you are stuck in the Wilderness. That’s the nature of wandering with no direction. You begin to see the same rock formations, the same tree groupings, the same path you have been down already – for the eighth time!

Messages about how much God loves you, grace, your identity in Christ and and all the promises that we have in Christ are great and foundational. But that is all they are, foundational. We must move on. The kids will keep gathering around the campfire night after night to hear these great old stories. Especially when you hand out the smores (Marshmallow, and chocolate bars on graham cracker sandwiches) afterwards. Hint: it is the smores that are bringing them there, not the stories.

In all areas of adulthood, throughout all history, there are the names that everybody knows – the top actors, top athletes, top business people, top politicians, top doctors, top architects, etc. all the rest of the people are the also-rans. Many people envy them and their achievements and notoriety. Here’s a little secret: They got there by doing the things that others were not willing to do. Sure, most of them had a good dose of God-given talent but neither they nor you can rise above the crowd without hard work. So it is and will be in God’s Kingdom.

There is going to be a hierarchy of positions and rulership in the Kingdom. Jesus tells us to seek these greater rewards. God is not looking for slouches. He is looking for persons who by continually hanging around Him and gaining a good understanding of what He is doing, who are willing to go to work for Him (with Him doing the work through them). With these, and these alone He is well-pleased. Seriously, when you watch the movie do you stick around to see and admire the naming of all the also-rans or do you leave once the initial listing of the stars have shone? God has made us all to be shining lights. Unfortunately those that are too far away from the sun are barely noticable.

Let you Light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Now that is the real reward, to be able to do what you were created to do – glorify God.

So to be a little crude:

Pull away from the teat and gnaw on some meat. Sure your gums will bleed initially and it will be painful. But in no time you will come to love meat. Milk will become a much lesser part of your diet. And most importantly you will be growing stronger everyday.
