For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Eph. 6:12

This is a difficult concept to grasp (e.g. we wrestle not against flesh and blood) and even more difficult to put into practice. The difficulty lies in our not knowing that we are spirits. When we were formed God took the dust of the earth, earthy material and breathed His breath or Spirit into us. The Spirit is our essence. It is the source of our life. This breathing into us created a new entity. We became living souls. The intersection of our earthy bodies with the breath of God, His Spirit, created a living soul. The Spirit of God is our Life. The I AM. Without I AM, I am not. Our eternal existence is bound to His Life and His Spirit.

The difference can be seen in the difference between eternal and everlasting. They are not the same. Eternal life is the life of God, the uncreated life. Everlasting life is created life and continues to live from the time of its creation onward but not prior to it’s creation – it lasts for ever from a point in time. Eternal life can not be placed on a timeline since time is a subset of Eternity. In Christ we have Eternal life, outside of Christ is everlasting life.

If we cease communication with God’s Spirit (the natural state, the earthy state) we are dead spiritually and dying physically. This is the state we are born into. Dead and dying in need of a Savior.

For Ephesians 6:12 to make any sense we must first understand that we are spirits who have souls that live in physical bodies. We don’t have any problems with realizing we have bodies and souls since we interact with these regularly. We sense things physically and feel and think thoughts regularly so body and soul are not a mystery once explained. But now try to capture the concept of spirit and we are at a loss for words and thoughts and sensations.

Because we can not see and rarely experience our spirit we have a difficult time accepting that we are spirits. This is where faith comes in. God is Spirit. Without faith we can not see God. Faith gives us the ability to know God and to know ourselves as God has purposed us before the foundation of the world.

Now take this information to prayer and to God and ask Him to reveal these things to your spirit. Until you can learn to live and move and have your being in Him (e.g. Spirit) you will struggle with spiritual things. One of the most challenging things you will wrestle with is that you are being attacked spiritually all the time through conflicts with others, not by them, hear that, not by them but through them.

Now do not go around calling everybody Satan or a demon. They are nothing but vessels mostly unaware of their puppet strings. And you are under attack because God is allowing you to be attacked. Why would God allow this? To get your attention. You need to put on Christ. You need to get your Christ on.

If everything was always going well for you you would not think to put on your armour. So get spiritual. Put on Christ. Every time you are being attacked spiritually fly to Christ. Just as Christian in Pilgrims Progress was never seen again without his armour (Christ) so you will learn to live and move and have your being in Him.

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh; (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Cor. 10:3-5
