And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Eph. 6:19,20.

Paul is asking for prayer, "Praying always… for all the saints. And for me… " and so am I.

Paul has firsthand knowledge of this warfare, as does any minister who is effective for the cause of Christ and His Kingdoms advance. If you set your face to "press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus", if you are running this race, there are many things that would entangle you, many things that would cause you to stumble. "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us," for "Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain."

This race requires training – study to show yourself a workman that doesn’t need to be ashamed. This race requires – strong footing – He has placed my feet on a Solid Rock. This race requires our attention – be alert, watch and pray. This race requires patience – we must run with endurance for the hope that is set before us is obtainable and sure by His faith in us.

Lastly let us lay aside every weight. This weight is everything that this world has sought to hold us down and back. Much of which we have picked up ourself in a desperate attempt to provide life for ourselves apart from Christ. One thing is needful – only Christ. So lay aside everything that is not Christ. It will cause you to become entangled, stumble and fall.

Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us run.

One of my first and favorite songs is Run to the Battle (Steve Camp)

Here are some of the lyrics:

Some people want to live within the sound of chapel bells
But I want to run a mission a yard from the gates of hell
And with everyone you meet, take the gospel and share it well
Look around you as you hesitate, another soul just fell.

Let’s run to the battle
Run to the battle

Do you have your armor on, we’re in the middle of a raging war?
We’ve been training for so long but have you learned to use His Sword?
And we may not be many but we serve a might Lord
And He’s made us more than conquerors so what are you waiting for?

Let’s run to the battle
Run to the battle
Run, run, run
We’ve got to run, run, run
Run to the battle

He has trampled down the enemy
And He’s given us the victory
When we pray we learn to see
That His army is marching on their knees

So what are we waiting for. Let’s run to the battle!, Run, run, run.
