The Standard of Our Currency

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matt. 6:19-21.

The value of our currency is grounded in the standard on which we place it. Currency is nothing more than an agreed upon system of exchange of value. The real value is in the thing the currency can be exchanged for, the standard on which it is based and equated to. Our faith is in the thing behind the currency.

The currency of the world, money, has a thing, a commodity, a possession as its standard. All the value of the money is agreed to be in the standard upon which it is based. Gold is often a standard upon which the value of money is placed. Theoretically there is an equal value of gold in possession to match the buying power of dollars in circulation.

If you believe that one, I have some property I want to sell you – barter of course – no cash. Our world economic system has as its standard the American dollar. It has been the accepted standard for the world’s currency for the past 50 years now. That is quickly being challenged. The basis of our faith in the American dollar is about to be destroyed beyond anyone’s repair.

I am not sounding the bell, “The sky is falling!”, but it is. The American dollar is fast becoming an unusable and unsubstantiated currency. We simply do not have the tangible value to back the sheer number of dollars we print. Right now we are holding on to the perception that the American dollar has strength. If you built a house out of yogurt it would have more comparative strength than our American dollar.

I say this to give you fair warning. You better have something stronger to place your trust in than your money and things. In our lifetime we will see waves of economic change and upheaval that will look Apocalyptic. Now don’t go hide under your bed, that won’t help anything. Get a new standard of value and new currency. Get a piece of the Rock.

It is not coincidental that God in His Word pits God against money, the currency of this current world system. The world places its value and all its weight upon that which it can hold, and see and handle. It places its weight, its faith, in things.

A child of God, does not place his or her faith in the value of things, they place it in a Person that does not change, a Standard that always has been and always will be of inestimable value. Have faith in God. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Heb. 11:1.

It is faith in God, it is when we place all our weight upon Him that we exchange currencies. We quit trying to extract value out of the world system and the things it offers. Sure we must operate in this world system, but please don’t for a minute think that this world system is going to save you. Do not waste an ounce of belief on it’s fading value. This present world is passing away.

And don’t think for a minute that you can just wait till the world is going up in flames to jump ship and vow your allegiance to God and His Kingdom. I wish it worked that way. It doesn’t. There will be strong delusions sent that will prevent you from having faith in God.

No, today is the day of salvation, now is the appointed time. “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Mark 8:35-36. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15.

“Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?” James 2:5.

We want something we can handle. God gives us Christ.
“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.” 1 John 1:1-4

“Choose this day whom ye will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15.

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Matt. 6:24.

“But we see Jesus…” Heb. 2:9.
