These Are the Sons of God

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Rom. 8:14.

 The Father has a Plan

God is bringing about the perfection, the maturity of many sons. This is His great desire —to bring many sons to glory. Bringing immediately implies a process through which we must pass, a walk. We, the sons of God, are in process. But what is the end of that process? The process produces something or should I say someOne. A child who need not be ashamed who has been matured and conformed to the image of His Son and shows forth the character of Christ and thus the Father.

Romans 8:29: For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

The Father has a People

John 1:12 – 13: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Galatians 4:6: And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 1 John 5: 11-12 The test.

The Father has a Prototype

Hebrews 12:2: Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The Father has a Process

How does He do it? He uses the same methods He used to bring Christ to perfection.

Hebrews 2:10: For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.

Hebrews 5:8: Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

Would anyone naturally choose to suffer? Of course not.

You would have to be out of your mind to sign up for this kind of suffering… but we have the mind of Christ.

Philippians 2:5 – 8: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross….

Philippians 2:12 – 15: Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

So Jesus demonstrated His love for His Father by going to the cross. You might say, But we don’t have a cross. Oh, but you do. And the cross is where your character is made perfect, where you are in process, where you too lay down your life, that it might be taken up again.

You have a Part

Romans 8:13 – 14: For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Why would anyone do this? I John 4:19: We love him, because he first loved us. He died that we might live. We die that He might live.

You have a Promise

I John 2:28 – 3:2: And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him. Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

You are the Program

The thing that so easily escapes us is that we are the program. It is not even remotely about what we know (although it plays a big part in helping to transform us). It is about the transformation, what you become, who you are – a son of God.

It is really so simple it escapes us:

Paul said: II Corinthians 11:3: But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

You Have the Pieces

I John 5:3: For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Luke 10:27: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

Matthew 16:24: Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

This is the simplicity of the gospel. Love God and others, stop serving self. Stop living your life for you and your own pleasures. Stop asking Self what you think, what you want, what you should do, rather ask God what He thinks, what He wants, What He would have you do, then do you Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your might.

And if by some strange event you realize that your will is not God’s will. Say as your Lord did, “Nevertheless, Thy will be done.”

You have the Power

John 10:18: No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself.

Will you lay your life down for Him that He may take it up again?

When you do, He will love all those people that you can’t in yourself. And He said, “If I be lifted up (in you) I will draw all men to me.

Mark 10:27: And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

Galatians 2:20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me:

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Rom. 8:14.
